The Hallway Kept in the Drawer

The drawer has opened farther than the furniture can explain. Its worn lip becomes a threshold, and the bedroom's floorboards continue inward toward a small plum door. Nothing else reacts: the lamp keeps its place, the bedcover holds its weight, and the chair waits at the edge. The distant yellow light makes depth feel less like escape than storage. The room has put an entire passage away without closing it.
